10th Hole Smakk
It was complete madness last Saturday at Meadowbrook Golf Course as Loops, Wu, LRod & I started on the back nine. The scene starts out with Wu trying to land a small tap on Loops' gut with the handle of his driver. Wu's slight miscalculation in aim was made clear by Loops exclaiming at the top of his lungs, "You just hit me right on the dick!!!" I'm not sure who I felt worse for - Loops hopping around the tee box holding his twig & berries, or LRod going into convulsions on the ground from laughing so hard, or the group of Japanese foursome on the practice green that thought Shaw was screaming out his Pearl Harbor revenge battle cry.
So as we try to control the laughter and tee off, I immediately shank my drive straight into some valley on the fairway to our left. Loops works through his pain to send a nice little screamer straight up in the air for a power 120 yard drive down the left, which still out drove my shank. So we get in the cart and go to my ball. I decide to take the most direct route and send the cart headfirst down the 85 degree drop as Loops has his second scream on this hole, "Holy shit! Are you going straight down this hill?" So as we slide to the bottom of the hill with the cart brakes fully slammed, Loops' color comes back to his face as we skid to a stop. A nice little recovery shot for me and we head off for Loops' second shot.
Loops lines up for his fairway swing and sends a nice screaming line drive right down the middle of the fairway - right where LRod & Wu are sitting in their cart. And what was the third exclamation on the hole to leave Loops' mouth as his Top Flight beams in at Wu's skull - nothing but dead silence. I think I could actually hear the choir of crickets stop when the sound of Loops' ball goes crashing dead on into the side of their cart as Wu dives for cover in LRod's lap.
I guess sometimes silence is golden....
